Electrolysis After-Care

Each person’s skin reacts differently to electrolysis. You can expect your skin to be somewhat tender, red and swollen.  Try applying an ice pack, this will cool down the skin, reduce redness, and reduce any swelling. These symptoms usually don’t last longer than a few hours.

KEEP IT CLEAN! Most breakouts can be caused by post treatment infection and that is why it is of utmost importance to keep the treated area clean. During electrolysis, the hair is removed from the follicle, leaving the follicle exposed and susceptible to infection. Any manifestation on the skin after treatment will be the normal healing process. It is temporary and will disappear shortly with proper aftercare. The first 12-24 hours after is when post treatment procedures are really important.

Some preventative measures include:

  • Keep your hands off, no touching! By touching the skin you can transfer dirt and oil to the treated area.
  • Use a gentle anti-bacterial soap to cleanse the skin.
  • Bathing in warm water with 3 tablespoons unscented Epsom Salts or applying a warm cloth soaked in 4 cups water with 1 teaspoon Epsom Salt has great healing benefits.
  • Disinfect the area with by blotting lightly with 70% alcohol or other disinfectant.
  • Let the area breathe, this speeds up the healing process.
  • Avoid make-up, sun-tanning and heavy moisturizers for 12 hours.
  • Witch Hazel or an antibiotic topical can also help heal the skin but use the cream instead of the ointment.
  •  Aloe Vera cools the skin and has great healing properties.
